As you have noticed, I purposely put an emphasis in their official colors by adding a color palette picture associated with each color. This is because, unlike for its South Korean counterpart, official member color is an important concept for Japanese idol group. It serves to give a personal identity for each member of the group and thus creates a personalized feeling between fans and their favorite member. These colors are mainly used for official merchandise design, most notably for the glow sticks of the group. It's almost like an unspoken tradition that in a Japanese idol group's concert, fans will wave the glow stick with the official color of their favorite member, and together, these multiple colors will create a beautiful rainbow of lights.
Conversely, I avoid to put their position here because, barring for several members, I get the feeling from their debut single that JO1 is composed of all-rounder members who will largely rotate their position from time to time. However there are some positions that are indeed fixed within the group. As the one to rank first at the final of Produce Japan 101, the Center position belongs to Mamehara Issei who is also the youngest member. Elected as the Leader of the group is Yonashiro Sho who is chosen, not only based on that fact that he is the eldest member, but also due to his wise and mature personality. The group also has two semi-official positions, the first is Dance Leader position assigned to Kawashiri Ren due to his extensive portfolio in dancing, and the second is Vocal Leader position assigned to Kono Junki due to his impressive vocal skill to hit even the most difficult note.
Lastly, I can gladly update that the group's debut single "PROTOSTAR" has been released with a huge commercial success, taking triple crowns by topping Oricon Weekly Single Chart, Billboard Japan Weekly Top Single Sales, and Billboard Japan Weekly Hot 100. If you haven't checked the single and its songs, you can check them all in the links that I put at the end of this post. Also I will surely write more about JO1, so see you in the next posts!
